Nice weekend! August 7, 2006

I had a super weekend, and I’m not at all ready to tackle a week’s worth of work now. Friday I met some friends out and had a little more fun than necessary (?) but it was a nice way to unwind after a long week. I really kicked ass at trivia – enough that even strangers came up and said so! The only unfortunate part of the evening was witnessing some girl-on-girl tongue action I could have done without – for the obvious reason of just not wanting to see that ever – and also because they were both skanks too. No one – regardless of what you’re into – ever wants to see skank-on-skank action, and there just wasn’t enough beer in the world to get rid of that unfortunate vision.

OK, I’m listening to the Smiths today on headphones so I can drown out one of my co-workers who mistakenly believes he has a good singing voice. It’s really amazing when I consider how much of the Smiths I listened to as a teen without ever seriously considering suicide. I still love this band – Johnny Marr’s guitar is incredible and the lyrics are unlike anything else I’ve ever heard. Mental note to check out Marr’s newest band and see if the ‘ole boy still has it. As for the lyrics, where else can you hear a lyric like ‘and the pain was enough to make a shy bald Buddist reflect and plan a mass murder’?

Speaking of music, Saturday I met a friend and her family at the Blues & Jazz Festival. It was a really nice festival and I had a great time just hanging out and talking and listening to music. The weather was perfect and after a hot dog on the grill, sitting outside on lawn chairs drinking beer and gabbing and feeling the grass through my toes, I realized I had just crammed my entire summer into one afternoon.

Oh glorious summer…

The big move October 19, 2005

We’re planning to move into our parent company’s building by the end of the year. It will be quite an undertaking and I’ll be responsible on our end for much of the network and systems part of the process. I’ll be happy once everthing’s done, but I’m fortunate to have a lot of help from the other end so I don’t think it will be too bad.

I went out last night but Tuesdays at my normal watering hole aren’t as much fun anymore. I wanted to cut down on my nights out anyway, so this might have just helped me cut another night out of my social life. I’ll continue to go out Saturdays only if I really have plans, and Sundays at least while I’m taking Mondays off. Oh well…I’ll save some money and the weather is going to start getting lousy anyway. Besides, Tuesdays I often end up out late with my boss and we always have a great time – and it’s always cheaper.

My back is still pretty bad but I haven’t decided whether a trip to the chiropractor would be worthwhile. I just realized that I’ve been taking twice the recommended dosage of Aleve so that might account for why the rest of me felt pretty lousy yesterday.

I haven’t posted in a few days because I’ve been busy and my bad back has curtailed my online time a bit.

I’m really behind on work but that’s nothing new. Friday was an exceptionally long day. Saturday a friend visited and then we went out to meet her sister and some other friends. I did something really embarassing – tipped over 3 beers! – but luckily I don’t think anyone got wet.

Sunday I went to lunch with my mom, then went shopping. I made dinner and almost lopped off my thumb. It’s not the first time I’ve cut my thumb enough to wonder if stitches would be necessary. It really is amazing I still have all my limbs.

Sunday night I went out and ended up a lot cozier than I should have to some asshole. Well, he was very nice to me, but he wasn’t so nice to one of my guy friends and at one point I even yelled at him about it. He was pretty good after that and even apologized.

It was my brother’s birthday Sunday and like the lousy sister I am, I forgot to call him until that night. I don’t think he cares about that sort of thing, but I was still embarassed about it.

Monday my back was even worse than it had been all weekend, so I decided maybe I needed some exercise. I walked 6 miles at the beach and was in pain the whole time. I got back home and could barely walk by then, and it’s even worse today.

Today I came back to a ton of work – but having Monday off was still worth it!

I have a lunch meeting tomorrow I need to prepare for and I’m going out after work tonight so I’d better get back to work for now.

What a busy day October 13, 2005

Last night I met a friend for drinks, only to discover right beforehand that I was really short on cash and would be for a few days. So needless to say, a beer was a great idea. My friend treated so that was nice and I’ll be sure to make up for it next time we go out. Anyway, we had a good conversation and it was nice to relax after a busy day.

Today I worked nonstop for 12 hours. I know I’m busy once I realize I haven’t even had time to drink my morning coffee. I had a to finish a web site redesign for launch tomorrow and it’s finally complete. It wasn’t much of a coding challenge, but it has taken me months to finish because of several other distractions and interruptions. The project was only difficult in terms of reorganizing the content and coordinating and configuring the processes involved in obtaining the content. Sometimes it seems to be much more difficult to redesign an existing site than to start completely fresh. One challenge is to work on the new content and design without affecting the current design – and confusing the visitor. Of course we also wanted the new design to be considerably better than the old one and I think we accomplished this so I’m pretty happy with the finished product. I’m relieved to have this project off my plate too!

OK, that must have sounded pretty dull, but it felt good to get this off my chest.

I’m very frustrated with my first attempt at fantasy hockey. My team is through a league on CBS SportsLine and from what I can tell, there must be some technical issues on the web site because all of our rosters are messed up. The other team owners are frustrated with the lack of responsiveness from tech support – especially since we paid to participate. Maybe I’ll try this again sometime – but on a different service.

Well, that’s enough for today. I have an even longer day ahead of me tomorrow.
